Jean Frances Thom Olson Scott
Aug. 21, 1929-April 29, 2014
Jean passed away at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at her home in Brookings. She was 84.
Jean was a longtime breast cancer survivor, only succumbing after a recent procedure to one lung. Her oncologist, Dr. Brett Poisson, of Grants Pass, called her “his miracle patient,” when she responded favorably to his treatment plan by going into remission for the last three-plus years.
Jean was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Ellsworth Wisconsin. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was an avid reader and had read more than 300 novels in the last three years. She also enjoyed gardening, attending concerts in the park, playing pinochle, Yahtzee and doing crossword puzzles. Jean worked briefly as a legal administrative assistant.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her friends and surviving family: sisters Colleen Notti of Montana and Sonja Woodward of Brookings; sons David P., Duane M., James D. and Michael L. Olson; and daughter Nancy J. Osborne. Also surviving are nieces Cindy M. Thom, Candice C. Colegrove, and Karen B. Kemp.
Jean is preceded in death by her husbands Caryle D. “Ole” Olson, Wilbur C. Scott; mother Blanche E. (Wilcox) Thom; father Virgil A. Thom; sister Doris M. Brewer; brother Gerald V. Thom; son Richard A. Olson; grandson Miles D. Olson; and nephew Daniel V. Thom.
There will be a private graveside service on May 18 for the immediate family.
All are welcome to share memories of Jean at a celebration of her life from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the meeting room of Harbor Water District, 98069 West Benham Lane, Harbor.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 West 6th St., Medford, OR 97501.
