James Herbert Nelson

James Herbert Nelson, 85, Brookings, died March 3, 2001, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in La Moille, Minn., to Maude and Herbert Nelson.

He attended Winona County High School and St. Marys College in Winona, Minn. He attended Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland.

Mr. Nelson practiced law in Portland, Coos Bay, Bandon and Brookings. He moved to Brookings in 1971.

He was a member of Winona Cathedral Catholic Church in Winona, and Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Brookings.

He enjoyed flyfishing and fished all over the world. He owned the Steelhead Lodge on the banks of the Klamath River before it was washed away by a flood.

Survivors are sister Margaret White, North Carolina; friends Ruby Jones, Brookings; Danny Callahan, Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements are under the direction of Littys Funeral Directors.
