Hazel Petersen passed away at a local care facility in Brookings on Sept. 19, 2012. She was 98.
Hazel was born July 28, 1914, in Oklahoma, to Richard and Mae Whiting.
She was employed as a waitress for most of her working life.
Hazel married Ora Petersen in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1996 after 62 years of marriage.
She moved to Brookings from Southern California a few years ago.
Hazel is survived by her granddaughter Alexis Warne of Brookings and a grandson, Rex Turner of Hemet, Calif. In addition to her husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her only daughter, Shirley Turner.
Hazel could light up a room with her smile, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif.
