Harold Alfred Ricks, 80, Brookings, died April 15, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Medford.
He was born June 4, 1920, in Bayard, Neb., as the 12th of 13 children, to Peter and Emma Ricks.
Most of his working life was spent in the Rogue Valley designing and building sawmills including Cheney Lumber in Central Point, Eugene F. Burrill Lumber in White City and Delah Timber in White City.
He married Patricia J. Thanos Sept. 28, 1972. They moved to Brookings-Harbor in 1990 to pursue his enjoyment of fishing.
Survivors are his wife, Patricia Ricks of Brookings; sons Dean Ricks of Gold Hill; Peter Thanos of Portland; daughter Cathy Thanos Shelby of Eugene; grandchildren David Ricks, Douglas Ricks and Andrea Ricks, all of Medford, and Christopher Thanos of Rhode Island; sister Susan Mount of Scotts Bluff, Neb.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 11 siblings.
A memorial service is planned for April 20 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St.
