George E. Sapora, 91, Santa Barbara, Calif., died Aug. 24, 2000, while reading his newspaper.
He was born Nov. 28, 1908, in New York City to Joseph and Giselle Sapora.
He grew up in Renovo, Pa., with his seven brothers and one sister.
He met and married Margaret Kelly while working for Paramount Studios in New York City in 1937.
After his graduation from the University of Illinois, Mr. Sapora joined the U.S. Army where he was a member of the horse cavalry. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1958.
Mr. Sapora and his wife moved to Covina, Calif., to raise their family. They moved to Brookings in 1973.
He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed many years of gardening , fishing and travelling.
He and his wife moved back to Santa Barbara last year.
He was a very fun loving, joyful, funny, kind, wonderful, and beautiful man. He will be missed, his family said.
Survivors are wife Margaret Kelly Sapora, Santa Barbara; sons Kurt and Cuno Sapora; grandson Slade Sapora.

Services were held Friday at the Santa Barbara Cemetery.
