Gail Hammerly passed away at her home in Harbor on July 19, 2012. She was 76.
Gail was born July 4, 1936, in Klamath Falls to Charles and Bessie (Hembree) Reeves. She grew up there and, following graduation from high school, moved to Alaska where she worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
In 1964, Gail moved to Medford where she met Calvin “Roy” Hammerly. The two married in Reno, Nev., on Nov. 13, 1965. She also began studying accounting and became a licensed bookkeeper and tax consultant.
They moved to Brookings in 1979 where Gail would own and operate D & H Bookkeeping until the mid-1990s. Gail was always busy doing something; she enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, cooking and canning and was an accomplished seamstress – making many of her clothes and even the drapes in she and Roy’s home. Gail devoted her life to her family and her career; she will be missed by all who came to know her.
Survivors include her husband Roy, of Harbor; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Lori Hammerly of Brookings; grandson Seth Hammerly and his wife Sunny of Washington, D.C. and their children Ethan and Dylan; granddaughter Chadusty Daggett of Fresno, Calif., and her children Dustin Torres and Randy Daggett Jr.; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Arnold Sarvis of Jacksonville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dixie and Paul Lambert of Lakeview; and mother-in-law Lottie Hopkins of Lakeview.
Gail was preceded in death by her twin brother, Dale Reeves.
The family plans to have a private memorial. An account for friends and acquaintances to contribute to in lieu of flowers has been established at Chetco Federal Credit Union under Gail’s name. The family thanks everyone for their sincere friendship and kindness.
