Frank G. Mahler

Frank G. Mahler
Frank G. Mahler
Frank G. Mahler, 45, of Portland, died Dec. 23, 2012.

He was born Aug. 15, 1967, in Fairfield, Calif., to Frank and Ulla Mahler.

Frank was a 1985 graduate of Brookings-Harbor High School.

He attended Western Oregon State College where he earned a teaching degree.

Frank began a career in early childhood education in 1989. For many years, he was a teacher and home visitor for Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Most recently he was an instructor in the Early Childhood Education Masters program at Portland State University, (PSU) and also held a position as a lead infant/toddler teacher at PSU’s Helen Gordon Child Development Center.

Frank will be deeply missed, but his commitment to children, and to those who love and care for children, will live on for generations. Frank was proud of his work with children, and especially with the work he did for Hands To Hearts International, traveling to India and Budapest, Hungary, to teach others his wonderful understanding of the teaching of very young minds.

Frank was, of course, loved for his sense of humor as well. He was quoted describing the toddlers to a co-worker as, tiny drunk midgets, some with serious attitudes, not in full control of their actions and sometimes a little violent.” Totally Frank!

Frank loved traveling throughout Europe, spending time connecting with heritage and family in Sweden and visiting friends in Switzerland.

Frank was a devoted son, a loving brother, a true friend, but most of all he was a hero. A very quiet, gentle, humble, compassionate and brilliant man, who dedicated his life to making the world a better place. He will be deeply, profoundly missed, but he will never be forgotten.

Frank is survived by his mother Ulla, of Brookings; brother Mike and sister-in-law Brenda of Sutherlin.

A remembrance win be  at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Grange Hall,  97895 Shopping Center Ave., Corner of Highway 101 and Zimmerman Lane.

Submitted by the family.
