Frank E. Congdon
Dec. 26, 1930 – July 16, 2013
Frank E. Congdon, 82, of Brookings, passed away July 16, 2013, in Crescent City.
Frank was born Dec. 26, 1930, in Leonard, Mich., the only child of Ralph and Elizabeth Yax Congdon.
He grew up Leonard until enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean War. While stationed in California, Frank met Alene. The two began what would be a nearly 60-year marriage when they married on Sept. 4, 1953, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
They subsequently moved back to Michigan where Frank started working with the phone company. He transferred to Pacific Bell in San Jose, Calif., in 1978, where he spent the rest of his career as a fiber-optic technician.
Following Frank’s retirement in 1989, he and Alene moved to Brookings. Frank loved to play golf and was a member of the men’s club at Salmon Run golf course. He also enjoyed tinkering with electronics and made sure that all the family photographs were transferred to each new technology as it became available. Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Brookings Elks Lodge 1934.
Survivors include Alene, his wife of 60 years, of Brookings; sons Daniel M. Congdon and his life partner Linda Walling of Bothel, Wash., David B. Congdon and his wife Cathy of Westland, Mich.; daughter Laurie M. Bullard and her husband Dave of Eugene; grandchildren Janis Congdon, James Congdon, Kathryn Bullard and Karalyn Bullard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Eugene, where Frank will be laid to rest.
