Francis M. “Bud” McCourt passed away April 9, 2014, at his home in Brookings.
He was born May 5, 1925, in Faribault, Minn., the second of eight children, to George and Eileen McCourt.
Bud served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in November, 1945.
He moved to Brookings in January, 1954, and met Mary Montgomery at Azalea Lanes Bowling Alley.
The two were married in November, 1954, and enjoyed more than 59 wonderful years together.
For 50 years Bud was a salesman for Snap-on, Mac, and Cornwell tool companies. He loved to fish for salmon in the ocean. He was an avid bowler as well. Everyone always seemed happy to see our dad. He was a special man and will be missed by all who knew him — especially by his family.
Survivors include Mary, his wife of 59 years; sons Marty McCourt, Mark McCourt and his wife Becky; daughter Maureen Mauti and her husband Carl; former daughter-in-law Kathy Dichter, all of Brookings; grandchildren Kelli Carpenter of Monmouth, Tyler M. McCourt and wife Abby of Brookings, Kylie Carpenter Cooke and husband Billy of Tillamook, Jessica McCourt of Brookings, Matthew Carpenter of Brookings, Maverick J. McCourt of Brookings; four great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter; brothers Michael McCourt and his wife Sandy of Wenatchee, Wash., Thomas McCourt of Colorado; sisters Joanne Schilke and husband Les of Pasco, Wash., Prudence McGrath and husband Pat of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.
Also surviving from a previous marriage are his son Michael Jackson and wife Vickie; and daughter Kathie Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Moore in 2014.
At Bud’s request, there will be no service.
