Former Brookings resident Fern Gertrude Hannaford, of Ashland, died Nov. 15, 2011, in Ashland, just short of her 101st birthday.

She also was a volunteer, driving cancer patients to the hospital in Seattle, and loved to knit sweaters and afghans for friends and family.

In 2000, she moved to Harbor to live with her daughter, Signa Fischer and her husband Jay. She lived there for 10 years until she moved with the Fischers to Ashland last fall. When she became ill this year, Fern moved into Faith Adult Foster Home in Ashland.
