Evelyn Minnie Smith, 92, passed away on Sept. 25, 2011, at her home in Brookings.
Evelyn was born on Oct. 29, 1918, in Temple City, Calif., where she graduated from high school and beauty college. Evelyn was a beautician in Southern California until 1955.
She and husband Larry owned and operated Larry Smith Trailer Sales in the Coachella Valley from 1956 to 1980. They raised their children in Indio, Calif.
She and Larry just celebrated 61 years of marriage on Sept. 23. They spent their summers in Brookings, where they like to vacation and fish since 1963, and had a winter home Palm Desert, Calif.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Larry D. Smith. Evelyn was the mother of two daughters, Lynda Smith, who passed away in July, 2010, who had lived in Hailey, Idaho, and Susan Hancock who lives in Banning, Calif.
Evelyn was a grandmother of Lynda’s three children – Reva Boland of Palm Springs, Calif., Eric Stewart of Eagle Rock, Calif., and Christopher Goodall of Whitewater, Calif.; and Susan’s children Nathan Slater, Brandon Slater and Laramie Hancock, all of La Quinta, Calif., and Mason Hancock of Banning, Calif. She had six great grandchildren – Sean and Sam Boland; Eric, Chris, Erin and Sophia Slater, all residing in the Coachella Valley area.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life service was held Thursday at Fely’s Restaurant; visitation was held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.
There will be a family Memorial Service in Palm Springs and interment will be at Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, Calif.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City, Calif.
