Esther G. Lewis, 97, Brookings, died Feb. 1, 2001, of bone cancer.
She was born July 29, 1903, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Erick and Alma Madison.
When she was 7 years old she moved with her family to a homestead near Chaplin, Saskat-chewan, Canada.
She married Gordon W. Sanborn Nov. 1, 1921.
In October 1923, they moved to Bellflower, Calif., here her husband became a cement and plaster contractor.
In 1943, they moved to Turlock, Calif., where they operated a dairy farm.
After her husbands death Nov. 9, 1962, of a heart attack, she returned to Bellflower where she was a live-in caregiver for several family friends.
She married Burton Lewis in August 1970 and lived in Bellflower until his death in April 1976.
She then purchased a home in Visalia, Calif., close to her youngest son and his family.
In 1990, she moved to Scotts Valley, Calif., to be near her other sons and their families. She moved to Brookings in June 2000.
She enjoyed her family, family get-togethers and church activities.
Survivors are her sister Mabel Hill, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons Lee Sanborn, LaHabra, Calif.; Elmer Sanborn, Olympia, Wash.; Harold Sanborn, Felton, Calif.; Jim Sanborn, Brookings; Rae Sanborn, Urbana, Mo.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husbands; son Donald Sanborn.
A memorial service is scheduled for Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at Whitehurst Norton and Dias Chapel, Turlock, Calif.
Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson, Calif.
