Elton W. Ostrom, 82, Brookings, died March 30, 2002, in Brookings of natural causes.

He was born March 20, 1920, to Rudolf Ostrom and Julia Swanson in Cambridge, Minn.

He grew up in Cambridge and attended Cambridge High School. He married Edna Mae Benzley in Longview, Wash., May 15, 1953.

Mr. Ostrom served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He drove for Southern Pacific Trucking and retired in 1978. He moved to Brookings in 1980 from Portland.

Mr. Ostrom attended several churches and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Cruiser Association.

He is survived by his son, Clint Ostrom of Brookings; and two sisters, Shirley Hoyt of Texas and Mildred Mantle of Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers.
