Dr. Ralph Emerson Hibbs

Dr. Ralph Emerson Hibbs, 87, Medford, died Oct. 1, 2000, at his home.

He was born in Hiteman, Iowa, July 23, 1913.

Dr. Hibbs received his medical degree from University of Iowa in 1936. He did his internship in Portland, his residency in Chicago and a fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio.

He spent five years in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. Four of those years were spent overseas. He was a prisoner of war for three years in the Philippines.

In 1946, he married Jeanne (Howard) Hibbs.

In 1951, he helped to found the Doctors Clinic in Medford. He retired in 1984, but did medical missionary work in Honduras, Mexico and the Philippines.

He had a home in Brookings. He loved to fish and travel.

In 1991, he married Virginia (Caldwell) Hibbs.

Survivors are wife Virginia Hibbs, Medford; sons Jack Hibbs, Florence; Steve Hibbs, Orangevale, Calif.; daughters Jill Hibbs, Beaverton; Jennifer Eastberg, Oregon City.

Preceding him in death was his first wife, Jeanne Hibbs, in 1986.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Manor, Skyline Plaza Building, 1200 Mira Mar in Medford.
