Dorothy W. Fleckner, 87, Brookings, died Dec. 16, 2000, at her home.

She was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Fortuna, Calif., to Marshall and Frances (Pryer) Wood.

She was raised and educated in Salinas, Calif., and graduated from high school there.

Mrs. Fleckner worked as the manager with the credit bureau and was also a stenographer in Salinas.

She married Lloyd Fleckner Sept. 19, 1945, in Mill Valley, Calif. Later, they relocated and owned and operated Forrest of Arden, a Bed and Breakfast Inn, on the Avenue of Giant Redwoods near Garberville, Calif.

In 1963, they retired to Brookings. In 1978, her husband passed away.

She was active in the Senior Citizens of Brookings and the Chetco RV Park. She also adored animals.

Survivors are sisters Beverly Rodley, Weed, Calif.; Thais Clines, Folsom, Calif.; Betty Dearinger, San Jose, Calif.; Nadine Sonnier, Conroe, Texas; step-grandson Steven Fleckner, Santa Rosa, Calif.; stepson Robert Fleckner, Chico, Calif.; step-granddaughter Kim Fleckner, Tennessee.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, brothers Frank, Richard, Howard and Marshall Wood; stepson Stan Fleckner.

At her request, no formal services will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Brookings Mortuary Chapel.
