Dorothy “Dottie” Alice (Ensley) Bircher
April 4, 1923 – Sept. 7, 2013
Dorothy “Dottie” Alice (Ensley) Bircher passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at her home in Brookings, at the age of 90.
She was born April 4, 1923, to Elvin Leland and Alice Margaret Ensley in Walnut Grove, Calif., and attended school in Courtland, Calif.
On July 4, 1941, Dottie married Henry “Hank” Alexander Bircher. During their marriage they lived in several states and Kwajalein, part of the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific.
When Hank retired in 1982, they moved to Brookings, where she resided for the last 31 years.
Survivors include her sons Larry A. Bircher of Brookings, Jerry L. Bircher and his wife Gayle of Folsom, Calif., and Henry L. Bircher and his wife Gloria of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren Melvin, Alice, Damon, Katherine “Katie,” Ryan and Rebecca; and great-grandsons Andrew, Brandon, Jordan and Deegan.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband Hank; her sister Bernice Fay; and her brother Elvin Leland Jr.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Mary Jane Brown and Coastal Home Health & Hospice for the excellent care and comfort they provided Dottie.
Friends may visit the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings.
Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point.
