Donald William Hobbs

Donald William Hobbs
March 14, 1951 - June 30, 2012

Donald William Hobbs, 61, of Gold Beach, passed away  June 30, 2012, at his residence.

A native to the Midwest, Donald was born to Harry and Helen (Rydberg) Hobbs on March 14, 1951, in Joliet, Ill. He grew up in the Chicago suburbs of Manhattan and New Lenox, Ill.

He spent time as a salesman for construction supplies and also worked for Harrah’s Casino in Joliet, Ill.

Donald served in the U.S. Army for a few years and drove a tank in Germany toward the end of the Vietnam War.

After he married Carol Hansen in 2003, they resided in Wisconsin until Donald built their home in Gold Beach. Donald always liked the idea of sitting by the ocean and,  after researching the West Coast, decided on Gold Beach, where the couple moved in 2011.

Donald enjoyed NASCAR and would go watch the Indy Races with his friends. He also enjoyed golfing throughout the years with hopes of taking up the sport again.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Gold Beach; his children Megan Hobbs and Dean Hobbs of Illinois; brother and sister-in-law David and Tammy Hobbs of Illinois; sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Dan Rantanen of Illinois; aunt Irene Hobbs of Illinois; and uncle Robert and his wife Carol Hobbs of Illinois.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
