Dave W. Roake passed away Jan. 23, 2013, at his home in Brookings.
Dave was born May 17, 1931, in Salem.
He attended Salem High School.
Shortly after high school he entered the U.S. Navy. After service in the Navy, Dave was a member of the Army National Guard. After leaving the armed forces Dave worked for Pacific Northwest Bell in Portland.
He then went on to work at Portland General Electric for 35 years. He retired Jan. 1, 1989.
He married Dorothy Toll Davis Jan. 1, 1983, in Reno, Nev. Their most pleasurable events during their 30 years of marriage were family gatherings and traveling in their RV through many of the United States and Canada.
After retirement Dave worked as a gas station attendant in Willamette and Tualatin.
Dave and Dorothy moved to Brookings in 1996. He worked as a gas station attendant and then worked for the Port of Brookings Harbor as a security guard. His last place of employment was Curry Coastal Transit where he drove the bus round-trip from Brookings to Bandon. Dave loved talking to his passengers and pointing out points of interest and scenic areas.
Dave’s interests and hobbies included cribbage, bowling and singing with a barbershop quartet in Camby where he also enjoyed competitions.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Roake; daughters and sons-in-law Sherry and Ruben Escobar, Ginger and Max Cutright, Lorraine and Randy Barnes, Clifford and Denese Davis, Christie Peters, and Tammy and Pete Tracy; sons Ryan Roake and Clifford Davis. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; sister Jeanette and her husband Bruce Damaske, Shermanlee Roake; sister-in-law Virginia and her husband Mark Marchisio.
Dave was preceded in death by his father Theodore Chester Roake; mother Ruth Willis Roake; brothers Theodore Chester Roake and Robert Eugene Roake.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. today (Jan. 26) at Fort Dick Bible Church, 6725 Lake Earl Drive, in Ft. Dick.
