Daurice Louise Pratt, 67, Grants Pass, died June 17, 2002, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 22, 1934, in Berkeley, Calif. She grew up in San Rafael, Calif., and moved to Grants Pass in 1945. In 1951, she married Clarence Ellsworth Pratt. She worked as a waitress and hostess at The Redwoods Hotel and the Rogue Food Shop. In 1960, she was the first hostess at the Riverside Restaurant. In 1977, she started Pratt Trucking with her husband. She earned her commercial drivers license and drove the truck with him until 1988. In 1979, she traveled to Washington, D.C., lobbying Congress and the Carter administration to deregulate the trucking industry. She bought the Curling Iron beauty salon in 1988, which she and her daughter managed until 1992, when she retired. Mrs. Pratt spent her summers in Brookings where she enjoyed fishing for salmon and bottom fish. She was involved with the PTAs at Redwood Elementary, South Junior High and Grants Pass High School, serving as chapter president several times. She was also an active member of Zonta, serving as chair of the Annual Charity Auction several times. Mrs. Pratt is survived by her children, Wendie L. Sorenson, Randy Pratt and Rob Pratt of Grants Pass; mother, Dorothea Branson of Grants Pass; brother, R. Charles "Chuck" Dorn of Eugene; sister, Roberta Seno of San Diego; brother, Joe Dorn; sister, Nita Beavers of Merced, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband. Memorial services will be Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m. at River Valley Community Church with Pastor Chris Naranjo officiating. Hull and Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. |
