Daniel was a skilled craftsman and made many fine pieces of furniture. He liked gardening, sports and the outdoors. He also raised Appaloosa horses. He and Leola were members of the First Baptist Community Church in Brookings.

Survivors include his wife, Leola, of Brookings; son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Cheri Clary of Clackamas; grandson Jeff Leer, his wife, Jody, great-grandchildren  Dominik, Mercedes, Sophia and Ysabelle of Kent, Wash.;  granddaugher Rachel Hales, her husband, Howard, and great-granddaugher Riley of Covington, Wash.; sister Doris Darrow and brother-in-law James Darrow of Corning; sister-in-law Edna Clary of Corning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
