Coila “Peggy” Goldbeck passed away in Crescent City, Calif., on June 24, 2011. She was 97. Peggy was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Durham, N.C., to Levi and Margaret (Woods) Carden. She grew up and went to school in Chapel Hill, N.C., graduating from Chapel Hill High School and the Carolina College of Commerce. Peggy went on to work for the Space Division of Rockwell International for more than 30 years. She married Alvin John Goldbeck in Glendale, Calif., in 1943. He preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage. Peggy was a member of the Daughters of the Nile Zuleima Temple 13, the Brookings-Harbor Nile Club, the Order of the Eastern Star Satellite Chapter #165 and a past member of the Brookings Emblem Club 265. Peggy is survived by her nieces and nephews living on the East Coast. Remembrances may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3101 SE Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, OR 97239-3095 or to the Masonic and Eastern Star Home of Oregon, 2150 Masonic Way, Forest Grove, OR 97116.
