Chester Chet C. Hur

Chester Chet C. Hurd, 84, Brookings, died April 16, 2001.

He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Powers.

He grew up in Del Norte County graduating with honors from Del Norte High School where he was active in sports.

He worked as a cat skinner and helped build Citizens Dock in Crescent City.

During World War II, he joined the Seabees and was stationed in the South Pacific. He worked as a tankerman for United Transportation, pumping oil barges on the Pacific Coast.

Mr. Hurd retired in 1979. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors are his wife Mabel R. Hurd of Brookings; daughter Sharon K. Roberts of Crescent City; grandchildren Christine Roberts of Crescent City; Aaron L. Roberts of Sheridan; sister Claire Fraser of Fortuna, Calif.; brother Edgar Hurd of Palo Alto, Calif.

At his request, services will not be held.

The family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
