Catherine Brown, 76, of Brookings, died at her home April 7, 2002, of cancer.
She was born Feb. 7, 1926, in New Bedford, Mass., to Anthony and Eva Melody.
Mrs. Brown grew up in the Cape Cod area, and graduated from New Bedford High School. Following her education she worked as a sales clerk.
During World War II, she volunteered her time as a nurses' assistant at Camp Edwards, Cape Cod. She met John W. Brown prior to the war. They were married in 1948 at Bowling A.F.B. in Washington, D.C. Together, they raised two children.
The family traveled extensively during her husband's military career. They lived for a time in Libya and other foreign locations. During a tour of duty in Japan, she volunteered as an English teacher. Upon retirement, she and her husband returned to Cape Cod.
In 1975, they moved to Sarasota, Fla., where they made their home for the next 20 years.
In 1994 they moved to Brookings where they have lived since.
She was a devoted homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, cooking and other activities to make her surroundings more comfortable for her family. Catherine was also a talented pianist.
She leaves behind her husband; daughter, Nancy Camara and her husband John of Nantucket, Mass.; son, Michael and his wife Susan of Brookings. Also surviving are three grandchildren.
Inurnment and private family services will be at Ward Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
