Billie Dawn Hagert
Dec. 4, 1930-Nov. 20, 2013
Former Brookings resident Billie Dawn Hagert passed away Nov. 20, 2013, at Farmington Square Memory Care Facility, Medford, at the age of 82.
Billie was born Dec. 4, 1930 in San Gabriel Calif., the oldest daughter of Floyd and Jeneveve (Whaley) Taylor.
Billie was raised in the San Gabriel area and married the love of her life, Melvin Hagert, on April 17, 1948.
The couple moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952 where they raised five children. Billie became a registered nurse, graduating from Southern Oregon College’s nursing program in 1970, after starting her nursing career at old Sacred Heart Hospital in Medford.
They retired to Brookings in 1989 where she owned Billie’s Antiques and returned to Medford in 2003 to be near family.
Billie enjoyed antiques, painting, travel, spending winters in Yuma, Arizona and Mexico, but she was the happiest when spending time with her family.
Billie is survived by her husband Melvin of Medford; sister Sheila Aparacio of Talent; brother Floyd Taylor of Phoenix; sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Judy Hagert of Eagle Point, Dave and Julie Hagert of Ashland; son Tom Hagert of Talent; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Shawn Winchell of Bandon; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother David Taylor; sister Vicky Bray; and son Stephen Hagert.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Providence Hospice, 2033 Commerce Drive, Medford OR 97504 or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
