Betty LaVerne Johnson, 76, of Brookings, died Feb. 26, 2002, in Brookings.

She was born June 24, 1925, in Ranger, Texas, to Fred and Mabel Griffin.

On Dec. 9, 1944, she married Roland Anderson. They were married until his death on Dec. 10, 1972. She married Dean Ivan Johnson Sept. 1, 1978. He preceded her in death May 3, 2001. Betty felt fortunate to have enjoyed two long marriages.

She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, crocheting, golf, line dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a caring and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Immediate survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Melodean Griffin of Earp, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Mike Patrick of Lakeview; and Karen and Buster Kottke of Poulsbo, Wash.; stepson, Dean Johnson and stepdaughter, Beatriz Whitney, both of Reno, Nev.; granddaughter, Michelle Patrick of Medford; grandson, Bart Patrick of Lakeview; stepgrandson, Deano Johnson of Reno; great-grandchildren, A.J. and Mackenzie Webb of Medford; nephews, Dale Griffin of Alabama and Allen Griffin of California.
