Bettie Gene Howe

Bettie Gene Howe, 62, Brookings, died Dec. 25, 2001, at Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach.

She was born March 20, 1939, in Rosebud, Texas, to Horace and Lula Bishop.

She grew up in Demming, N.M. She was a member of the high schools National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. She graduated in 1957.

She married Harry Howe Jr. Aug. 25, 1958, in El Paso, Texas. They divorced in 1979.

Mrs. Howe worked for the U.S. Army, retiring in 1992. She moved to Brookings from Wickenburg, Ariz., in February.

Survivors are sons, Fred Howe of Brookings; Hugh Howe of Maryland; brother, Bob Bishop of Arizona; sisters, Lucy Mallard and Marcelle Pearson, both of Texas; and Lena West of Arizona.

Also surviving are four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Rayeva Howe and son, James Howe.
