Barbara Eileen Duffy

June 29, 1938-Dec. 7, 2013

Barbara Eileen Duffy, of Brookings, died Dec. 7, 2013, at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif.

She was born June 29, 1938, in Omaha, Neb. 

Barbara enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served as a flight attendant. 

She married John C. Duffy, a U.S. Army pilot, in 1964. 

Following his early death, Barbara earned a Bachelor of Geography degree from Sacramento State College in 1973. She worked as a supervisor for the Social Security Administration in Sacramento and Stockton. Later, she worked for 10 summers as a campground hostess in the High Sierra. 

For the last nine years she made her home in Brookings. She volunteered at the Chetco Activity Center. She was an avid reader and enjoyed hiking. 

Her last spoken words to her family were, “I’ve had a wonderful life.” 

Barbara is survived by her brother Richard D. Merica of Sacramento. 

Bequests may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Ave., North Seattle, WA 98103.
