Anne Hicks

Anne Hicks, 70, Portland, died Aug. 13, 2000, of lung cancer.

She was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Seattle, Wash., to Alden J. and Anna A. Fischer.

Mrs. Hicks attended St. Nicholas School, which was founded by her grandfather, and the University of Washington.

She married Bob Hicks in 1950. Her daughter, Temple, was born in 1955 and her son, Grant, was born in 1957.

The family moved to Tigard in 1962. She was instrumental in the formation of the Tigard Library and became the first paid librarian, her family said.

She graduated from Fox College in 1977 with a bachelors degree in English literature.

She moved to Brookings in 1978 and was a librarian at the Chetco Community Public Library.

Later, she moved to California and then to Iowa. In 1999, she moved to Portland.

She loved books, politics, good food, rodeos, auto racing, animals and her family.

Survivors are daughter and son-in-law Temple and Paul Martin; son and daughter-in-law Grant and Linda Hicks; grandchildren Crystal Martin, Chris Jackson, Mitch and Mark Hicks; brother Jack Fischer and his family.

Memorial services were held Aug. 19 at the Tigard Community Friends Church.

Inurnment was at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Tigard Library, care of Tigard Library, 13125 S.W. Hall Blvd., Tigard, OR 97223.
