Alton M. Cook, 102, Brookings, died Jan. 5, 2002, of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 16, 1899, in New Bedford, Mass.
He grew up in New Bedford and moved to Brookings from California in 1962. He married his wife, Myrl, in 1955.
Mr. Cook was an electrician in the Navy and was awarded various medals. He also worked as a bus driver, dishwasher and cook, and worked for the phone company. He was a member of the First Baptist Community Church.
Mr. Cook is survived by his sister, Alma Speer of Chula Vista, Calif.; friends, Shane Alcorn, Thad Barrior, Dewain Hagon, Janet Hagon; and god-son, Alton Hagon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrl Cook.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Community Church, officiated by Jim Lamb.
