Alice Ashwell, 71, McMinnville, died Jan. 23, 2001.
She was born May 21, 1923, in Wheatland to Archie Benjamin and Gertrude Alice Versteeg Davidson.
She attended grade school in Wheatland and Gopher Valley, and middle school in Sheridan.
She married Eugene Thomas in Sheridan in December 1945. They lived in Gopher Valley until moving to Brookings in 1948.
Mrs. Ashwell worked at the family drive-in in Brookings. She was involved in 4-H, Home Extension, the school board and various school functions. She was also a member of several bowling leagues.
In 1970, they moved to McMinnville. She worked for Oregon Mutual Insurance and Goodwill for a short time.
Her husband died in 1985.
She married Russ Ashwell July 14, 1995, in The Dalles. They lived in McMinnville where she belonged to the Elks and Eagles lodges. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing, gardening and her family.
Survivors are her husband, McMinnville; daughter Sonja Olheiser, McMinnville; sons Jan Thomas, McMinnville; Tommy Thomas, Portland; stepson Larry Ashwell, Missoula, Mont.; stepdaughters Kathleen Fisbeck, Waldport; Teresa Kerzan, Lafayette; brothers Arden Davidson, McMinnville; and Beryl Davidson, Brookings;
Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 26, at Chapel Macy and Son in McMinnville.
Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in McMinnville.
