Agnes Mary Kerttula, 85, Smith River, died Oct. 20, 2001, in Smith River.
She was born Agda Mary Luoma April 25, 1916, in the Finnish settlement, Finlayson, Minn., to Victor and Mary Luoma.
She married Reino Kerttula, also a Finlander, in 1933 in Aitkin, Minn., and later moved to Yampa, Colo. Mrs. Kerttula worked as a cook for a lumberjack camp.
In 1952, the Kerttula family moved to Smith River. Mrs. Kerttula worked as a prep-cook at Ship Ashore, then later worked for the various bulb farms for more than 30 years.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and panning for gold.
Survivors include son, Roy and his wife, Diane Kerttula of Hiouchi; daughter, Janice and her husband, Glenn Hill, of Smith River; sister, Alice and brother-in-law, Melvin Mattson of Superior, Wis. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband; sons, Jim, Roger and Jack; daughter, Karen Suiter; grandsons Edward and Dennis Kerttula; granddaughter Kaye Hill; brothers, Arthur, Arvi and Arne Luoma; sister, Aune Isaacson.
A memorial service will be Thursday, Oct. 25. at 4 p.m. at the Smith River Community Hall. All family and friends are invited.
