Ada Haight Thatcher

Ada Haight Thatcher died April 15, 2002, in Medford, after suffering a stroke the preceding day. She was 94.

Mrs. Thatcher was born in Smith River Oct. 9, 1907, to Fred D. Haight and Stella Sara Trumble Haight. She attended Rowdy Creek School.

She attended high school in Crescent City. After graduating in 1924, Mrs. Thatcher attended University of California, Berkeley. There she met Ira Thatcher late in her sophomore year. In April 1927 she married him and they lived throughout Northern California, from a lumber camp in Albion, to selling bonds in Chico, to Sterling City, and back to Chico to take over a restaurant, moving back to Sterling City and running a stage line between Sterling City and Chico.

In 1933 they moved back to Smith River and provided bus service for Del Norte County High School from Klamath to Crescent City. Later she followed her husband to Palo Alto, Calif., to work for United Airlines, a job that caused the family to live briefly in Chicago. His work would soon return the family to Northern California where they remained until retirement, when they moved to Medford.

Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Bill Shafer of Brighton, Colo.; and Becky and David Seibert of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren Cindy Baurer, Laurie Fidao and Karen Raucher, all of Colorado; great-grandchildren Saralinda Kiser and Robert Seibert of Reno, Jonathan Baurer, Jennifer Baurer, Kiersten Fidao, Amy Raucher, and Katy Raucher.
