 Greta “Dawn” Suiter

Oct. 21, 1915-April 25, 2014

Former Brookings resident Greta “Dawn” (Condart) Suiter, 98, of Salem passed away Tuesday, April 15, at the home of her daughter Judy Ames, in Turner.

Dawn was surrounded by many of her family members when she died of age-related causes. She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Myrtle Creek, and grew up attending schools in Myrtle Creek, Portland and Drain.

She married Ray Suiter on May 14, 1939, In Cook, Washington — their marriage lasted 74 years. They lived in Cottage Grove, Eugene, Brookings, Albany and Salem as they raised their six children.

Ray preceded Dawn in death in October 2013, also at the age of 98.

Dawn was an artist; her paintings were enjoyed by many friends and family members. She won awards for some of her artwork. She will also be remembered for her outstanding cooking, which included wonderful pies, cookies, donuts and homemade bread. She also was an excellent seamstress.

She is survived by sons Norman (Mary) of Sweet Home, and Russ (Rhonda) of Brookings; daughters Nancy Ruebush of Brookings, Peggy (Dale) Turpin of Reedsport, Judy (Mick) Ames of Turner and Eva (Randy) Canoy of Salem; cousins Lloyd and Susie Russell of Grants Pass. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to Ray, Dawn was preceded in death by her father Charles Condart; mother Norma Waters; infant son Leon; granddaughter Terry Turpin; grandson Byron Suiter; son-in-law Harold Ruebush.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Willamette Valley Hospice and Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service for their support and comfort.

Donations may be made in her name to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 Third St., N.W., Salem, OR 97304

At Dawn’s request there will be no funeral service; however, a Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.

Submitted by Virgil T. Golden Funeral  Service.
