Georgiena U. Woods, a former brief resident of Brookings, was taken by her Lord on Dec. 9, 2013. 

She was born in La Crosse, Wis., to John W. and Cora A. Fordyce. 

She grew up on a farm in Desoto, Wis.

Georgiena married Richard R. Sallander in 1937, in LaCrosse. They had a son — Charles Sallander, but later they divorced.

Georgiena became a nurse and worked in that profession until her retirement in 1987. She joined the State of California Grandmother’s Club and was an active member for  more than 53 years. She was local club president five·times and state president twice. 

In 2003 she moved from Fullerton, Calif., to the Grandmother’s Village in Coarsegold, Calif. 

In 2010, at age 91, due to failing eyesight and heart valve replacement Georgiena decided to move to Brookings to  live with her son Charles and his wife Kathy Sallander. She was a regular attendee of the Church of Christ of Brookings where she met many cherished friends. In 2011 she decided to move to Reno, Nev., to be with her remaining younger sister Juanita McCarthy. 

She is survived by her son Charles and wife Kathy Sallander of Brookings; sister Juanita McCarthy of Reno; and stepdaughter Janet. Also surviving are eight  grandchildren ;16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband George H. Woods; two older brothers Wallace and Arnold; two younger brothers Raymond and George, two  younger sisters Gladys and Helen; stepson Dr. William Woods and his wife Dr.Geraldine Woods; and grandson Jeffery Woods. 

No services are to be held.Georgiena’s ashes will be scattered in Brookings.
