Brookings resident Jose Fredrico Vasquez, 50, was sentenced Nov. 15 to 30 days in jail for each of two counts of sexual harassment, with sentences to run concurrently.
Vasquez was also sentenced to 24 months probation and ordered to pay two $750 fines.
He was also ordered to follow the recommendations of his pre-sentencing evaluation or participate in the Curry County Community Corrections sex offender program, and to have no unsupervised contact with persons under the age of 18.
Vasquez was convicted of the sexual harassment charges Oct. 24 after pleading no contest. The sentencing was delayed to allow time for evaluation.
Prior to sentencing, Curry County District Attorney Charles Steak told the court of the actions which led to the Vasquez arrest.
Steak said the charges stem from an incident involving a 15-year-old girl who was subjected to improper touching of her breasts and vaginal area through her clothing, followed by Vasquez licking her side and telling her he could make her feel good.
The incident happened while the victim was working at The Market Place on Chetco avenue, where Vasquez was also an employee.
According to Steak, Vasquez then warned the victim not to tell anyone of the incident, and added that the victim said she was terrified.
Unfortunately, according to Steak, the case was adversely affected by acts of vandalism by friends of the victim.
