URBAN RENEWAL WORKSHOP THURSDAY Print E-mail
June 04, 2002 11:00 pm

The costs, revenues and tax impacts of an urban renewal district will be discussed Thursday at Brookings City Hall.

Charles Kupper, a consultant working with Brookings city government, will lead a workshop on those topics in the City Council chambers beginning at 7 p.m. Kupper will present options to city staff, city councilors, planning commissioners and the public.

Work on the Brookings Town Center Master Plan is currently under way and a good source of income for projects identified by the plan is urban renewal financing, according to the city.

The meeting is the fourth in a series of Urban Renewal Plan workshops.

The first was held March 7. At that meeting, the basics of urban renewal were covered. At the second meeting April 4, establishing district boundaries and developing goals were discussed. Project activities were discussed in May.

Later this month, there will be a joint City Council/Planning Commission work session to review a draft of the renewal plan and report.

Other planned meetings include a review of the draft urban renewal plan by the Planning Commission and a public hearing on adoption of the urban renewal plan by the City Council. Dates for these meetings have not yet been determined.

All residents, business owners, property owners, public officials and other interested community members are encouraged to attend the meetings.
