Brookings police on Friday continued searching for a man who tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his vehicle while she was walking home from school on Oak Street.
“We have received a few tips since releasing a description of the man, but we don’t have any suspects yet,” said Lt. Donny Dotson. “There is no expiration date on this case. We will continue looking for the suspect.”
According to Dotson, the girl was walking home after school at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man called to her and tried to talk her into entering his vehicle, parked on Oak Street next to Stout Grove Park. The man was touching his genitalia at the same time.
The girl ignored the man and continued walking. She told her mom about the incident a few hours later, Dotson said. The mother reported it to police, who interviewed the girl.
“She was shaken up by the experience, as anybody would be, but she was able to give us a basic description of the suspect and the vehicle,” he said.
The suspect was described as being white, in his early 30s, with dark hair and facial stubble. He was driving a dark blue four-door sedan with a rear spoiler.
