GOLD BEACH U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Thomas Pearce, 33, who was convicted Dec. 21 of criminal mistreatment of his son, is back in jail on sex charges involving his children.
In December, Pearce pleaded guilty to criminal mistreatment in the first degree, a class C felony. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail 36 months probation.
On Monday, new charges were filed against Pearce and his wife, Barbara Joann Pearce, 32, when they were arrested in Brookings by Curry County Sheriffs Detective David Gardiner.
Both were arraigned Tuesday. He was charged with two counts of sodomy involving his son, and two counts each of sodomy unlawful sexual penetration involving his daughter, Gardiner said.
Barbara Pearce was charged with criminal mistreatment for failing to protect the daughter, Gardiner said.
According to court records, both children are under the age of 12.
Both suspects requested court-appointed attorneys and remain in custody Tuesday, with her bail set at $25,000 and his at $1 million.
She is scheduled for her next court appearance March 8. He is scheduled to appear next on March 19.
Gardiner said Tuesday that he expects further charges to be filed against Michael Pearce.
