GOLD BEACH The Curry County Commissioners approved a slightly higher payment schedule Monday for the provider of the countys Domestic Mediation Program.
State Court Administrator Ed Jones told the commissioners that the Coastal Center has been providing classes for divorcing people and their children in Coos and Curry counties for about two years.
The provider has received $75 an hour for the sessions. Coos County recently raised that to $80, and Jones requested Curry County do the same.
He said the increase was not only needed because of inflation, but the parent mediation class has increased from three hours to four.
The program has made divorce easier on everyone in some cases, said Jones.
He said everyone takes the one-hour orientation program, and parents with children go on to other classes.
The classes are held once a month in Curry County and twice a month in Coos. People can attend in either county.
Jones said he would like to find a local provider for Curry County, but the requirements are stringent.
The program is funded by a $75 fee that people must pay when filing in divorce, paternity or custody cases, or when modifying orders.
Jones said the fees bring in $1,200 to $1,600 a month. The fund now has $27,000. He said if the money ever runs out, the county is under no obligation to pay for the program.
