Curry General Hospital announced this week it will reinstate obstetric services in January.
The hospital temporarily suspended such services about five months ago due to a lack of qualified personnel.
“It’s always been our goal to get this service back up,” said Andrew Bair, CEO of Curry Health Network.
Dr. John Jackson, who specializes in family practice and obstetrics, will join the hospital staff, Bair said. This will give the hospital the ability to provide labor and delivery services, something that has not happened at the hospital since the summer, he said.
While services were suspended, the hospital developed relationships with providers in other communities and nurses are receiving training in obstetrics, he said.
“We really see this as a social obligation we have to this community to provide this service,” Bair said.
