EUGENE Emporium, the wests largest privately-owned department store chain, is poised to open their newest store in Brookings.
Emporium will move into the space vacated by Stage at the South Coast Center, according to Emporium President and Chief Executive Officer Ron Schiff.
After remodeling, Emporium plans to open the 19,000 square foot store in mid-October, Schiff said during a quick visit to Brookings Monday afternoon.
We have been looking for growth opportunities in this area, said Emporium Founder and Chairman Dallas Troutman.
Since opening my first store just 100 miles north of here 45 years ago, Brookings area customers have become very good neighbors and friends. I am delighted to be able to open this store for them.
Emporium Family Department Stores is based in Eugene, and operates 30 other stores throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Their northern California store operates under the name, Troutmans.
Schiff said Emporium is known as a value-oriented, name-brand retailer.
We offer well-known brands such as Levis, Woolrich, Columbia, Lee, Pacific Trail, OshKosh BGosh, Nike and adidas, just to name a few.
As soon as we can take possession (of the Harbor store), remodeling will begin and well get the store open just as quickly as possible, Schiff said.
I invite everyone to watch for our grand opening. It will be a fun event with lots of great values.
Schiff said Emporium has reached agreement for three other stores that will open prior to Thanksgiving of this year.
Stores in Elko and Winnemucca, Nevada, will open a new state for Emporium. In addition to Brookings, we will be opening another Oregon store in The Dalles.
In August, Emporium opened a store in Aberdeen, Wash., and a teen specialty store in North Bend.
By our fiscal year end, Jan. 31, 2001, Emporium will have opened six new stores this year, Schiff said.
With the new openings Emporium will be operating 34 stores in five states, he added.
Backing up our slogan, Shopping Never Felt Better, Emporium stores offer low Emporium prices on thousands of items so that customers do not have to wait for a sale to receive reduced prices, Schiff said.
We also offer several extras at no extra charge, Schiff said. The very popular Emporium Senior Saver Club offers a 10 percent discount on Sundays and Tuesdays for customers age 60 and older.
Free year-round gift wrapping and free basic alterations with apparel purchase are other parts of Emporiums customer service package, Schiff said.
