Credit card text messages are a scam

A text message sent to U.S. Cellular and Chetco Financial Credit Union (CFCU) customers Monday notifying them of flagged debit cards is a scam, according to the Oregon attorney general's office has verified.

It's not specific to CFCU, but seems to be aimed more at U.S. West Cellular customers, CFCU officials said.

Anyone receiving such a text message should report such activity to the Attorney General's complaint office at 877-877-9392.

"This morning we have received numerous phone calls from members stating they received a text message saying their cards have been flagged," the Harbor-based financial institution's website reads. "The unsolicited text sites a toll-free callback number that is not a CFCU number."

The Attorney General's office said they have received numerous complaints regarding the scam.
