|CITY NAMES SHUTE|

Nancy Lee Shute has been named by the Brookings City Council to serve on the Brookings Parks and Recreation Commission.
Shute will serve in Position No. 5 which runs until Feb. 1, 2001.
The vacancy was created by the retirement of Don Higginson from the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department and his subsequent move to Idaho.
The Parks and Recreation Commission consists of five commissioners appointed by the city council for four-year terms. The council meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month in the city council chambers.
Shute, a resident of Brookings since April 1997, said I believe it is up to every resident to contribute to his or her communitys sense of place, in her application for the position.
By serving on this commission I would be working toward that goal. Parks and Recreation create a good feeling about the community in which people live, which in turn add to community values.
Shute, who has bachelor and masters degrees in economics from Memphis State University, is owner and interior designer for Dawson House Designs, Brookings.
She is a member of the regional investment board for Coos, Curry and Douglas counties, on the board of directors of the Brookings Chamber of Commerce, served on the Business Outlook Conference Committee and was Economic Development Committee co-chair.
