A project to install sidewalks and other improvements along Easy Street in Brookings is slated to proceed this summer, Public Works/Development Services Director Loree Pryce said today.
Improvements will be in the vicinity of Kalmiopsis School and are funded primarily through the federal “Safe Routes to School” program.
“ODOT is managing this project and reports that they received three bids, all from local contractors,” Pryce said. The low bid, as reported by ODOT staff, was $546,680 from Tidewater Contractors, Inc.
The total budget for the project, including ODOT engineering, is $661,700, with the city of Brookings providing up to $74,238.
“This will be a great safety enhancement for children walking to school and other pedestrians and bicyclists,” said Mayor Ron Hedenskog. “This project is a continuation of our efforts to improve pedestrian and traffic safety in our community.”
Construction on the project is expected to commence immediately upon the completion of the current school year.
