GOLD BEACH – A photograph of Pistol River by Brookings resident Patrick Brewer was chosen as the winner of the Curry County commissioners’ contest seeking images for the county’s redesigned website.
“On the county’s website, we realized that our pictures were old and stale. We used some, we didn’t know the origin of them,” County Information Technology Director Todd Weeks told the commissioners as he announced the winner at last week’s commission meeting.
Weeks said all the photos submitted by Brewer were outstanding.
The winning photo, and eight other Brewer photos, can be seen on the county website at http://www.co.curry.or.us .
“The one that we picked out, you can just see the imagery off the waters, the colors. It’s absolutely beautiful,” Weeks said.
On Friday Brewer said that photo, taken in wintertime, was one of his favorites.
‘The sand dunes in the photo were all different a few days later,” he said.
Brewer was presented a certificate of appreciation, as well as a $50 gift certificate to Art Alley Grill in Brookings.
“I know the chef at this place. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the outing,” said Commissioner George Rhodes, who cooks at his wife’s restaurant in Brookings.
Weeks said the IT Department will incorporate not only Patrick’s photos, but others who entered the contest.
As of Friday, nine of Brewer’s were on the website.
The main criteria of the contest was that photos represent the various moods and locations in the county.
“I submitted photos of Port Orford, up the Chetco River and Harris Beach,” Brewer said. “I tried to reflect the whole county with my photos.”
He often submits photos to the Curry Coastal Pilot, many of which have been featured on the cover of the Coastal Guidelines TV guide. Brewer said he enters his photos in contests often.
“You can’t win if you don’t submit them,” he said.
