AUTHORITIES SEARCH FOR RAPE SUSPECT

Curry County Sheriff Kent Owens is cautioning women in the Brookings-Harbor area not to walk alone at night following an alleged rape behind the South Coast Center on Highway 101 in Harbor.

Im urging all women not to walk alone in dark areas until the case is solved, Owens told The Pilot Thursday.

He said deputies are currently investigating the reported rape of a woman on June 27. The investigation has been hindered, however, because the alleged crime, reported by a friend of the victim, wasnt made until July 2, he said.

Also, the victim told investigators she discarded the clothes she was wearing at the time of the alleged rape, Owens said.

He is seeking help from the public. The suspect was described as a white adult male, six feet tall, 200 pounds, long hair, speaking with an Australian accent and wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriffs office at (541) 469-3132.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Curry County Crimestoppers at (541) 412-0989 or (888) 974-0000 and leave a message.
