Born July 6, 1913, Hogenbirk served as a nurse for the British Army in WWII and watched as lives were saved after the discovery of penicillin. Hogenbirk said that the best thing in her life was her late husband William. When asked about her longevity she said, “I’ve always been active.” Her advice on how to live to be 100 years old was to keep interested in things for all your life and keep active. “Don’t fuss over your diet,” Hogenbirk said. “Eat anything and everything that comes around.” The Pilot/Jef Hatch
