Brookings Harbor Community Theater announces auditions for “Holy Cannoli,” a play by John D. Smitherman, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 4 and 5.
The play will be directed by Colleen Harrison – “Don’t Dress for Dinner,” “Rented Christmas” and “The Boardinghouse” – and she is looking for four men and three women.
Show dates are Feb. 8-10 and 15-17 with a special Valentine’s Day performance benefiting Soroptimist International of Brookings.
“Holy Cannoli” is about a man who is living with the daughter of strict Italian Catholic parents who are expecting to meet her female roommate, who is actually the guy.
John was hoping to celebrate his and Maria’s two-year anniversary as housemates by proposing to her. Instead he finds himself as “Suzanne” wearing a dress and trying to cope with Maria’s cranky father, her overbearing mother and her wild younger sister, according to the playbill. Then there’s Maria’s old childhood friend who tries to make his move on Maria as well as “Suzanne.” Add John’s trouble-making friend to add to the laughs.
The cast of characters include Maria’s mother, mid to late 50s; Maria’s father, mid- to late-50s; Maria, mid- to late-20s; Maria’s sister, late teens to early 20s; Maria’s family friend, mid-20s; John/Suzanne, mid- to late-20s; John’s friend, mid- to late-20s.
Auditions will be held in the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Ave. For more information, call 541-469-4700.
