GOLD BEACH – Carol Jean of Gold Beach, Aiden James Stephan of Port Orford and Bethany Michels of Gold Beach were the winners of their respective divisions at the Curry Talent Round-Up at the Curry County Fair Saturday afternoon.

Jean won first place in the adult division by singing “Let er Rip” accompanied by recorded music; Stephan played a fiddle solo to win in the youth category. The performers each won $500 and a chance to compete at the Oregon State Fair in Salem on Labor Day weekend. Michels performed “Open the Eyes of My Heart.” She was the only performer in the children’s division. She won $200.

After the talent competition in Salem, last year’s state fair winner, Stephanie La Torre of Brookings, will perform a concert. Two years in a row, a competitor from Brookings won the state fair competition. Last year, Jessie Goergen performed a solo concert after the announcement that La Torre was the new state champion.

Winning second place in the adult division at the Curry County Fair was Stella Rain of Gold Beach, who performed “This Love” with her son, Jaden. Jaden also competed in the youth division, but did not place. Third place was awarded to Tim Vila, of Gold Beach, whose mother, Siobhan Vila, served as mistress of ceremonies for the event.

Placing second in the in the youth division were Nathan Hanna and Tyler Norton who played a guitar duet. Both performers are from Gold Beach. Shawntisha Bailey, who has been competing for several years at the talent show, won third place for singing “Hold On” by The Secret Garden. Bailey was the only competitor from Brookings.

Also competing in the adult division was John Clute from Port Orford, who sang and accompanied himself on guitar.

Other performers in the youth division were David Vincent and Natalie Vincent, both from Sixes; Sarah Stauff, Cameron Kuykendall, Connie Nieves and Alex Adams, all of Gold Beach.

Performers were judged on stage presence, performance quality and audience interaction.
