Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and may be purchased at the center anytime Monday through Friday from Dawn Baines, operations manager. Her office is upstairs just off the dining room. Tickets may also be purchased from any board member.
The Sew ’n Sews meets every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until early afternoon. The members either work on their own sewing or knitting project or each take a section and make a quilt. The name of the pattern for the fundraising quilt is Carol Doak’s Pattern 166 – also known as a scrappy. All different fabric patterns and colors were used.
“This is a beautiful quilt and you need to see it to truly understand the hard work that went in to the making of this piece,” Baines said.
In 2002, Shirley Bates and Michelle Fallert started the Sew ’n Sews and there has been a group of seamstresses meeting at the center ever since. Bates passed away in 2006, after winning the Best of Show at the Curry County Fair in Gold Beach.
The quilters who participated in making of the fundraising quilt are Delores Baker, Diana Chasar, Alice Covington, Heike Domel, Vi Fleming, Mary Garinger, Sharon Garinger, Margie Hodges, Sonja Mosier, Barbara Oparowski, Pat Riddle, Ione Trapp and Francia White.
“We are so very pleased with the quilt and hope you will come up to the center, take a look and buy some tickets,” Baines said. “The drawing will be Friday, April 29, and you need not be present to win.”
